Dapol was created in 1983 by a married couple, David and Pauline Boyle. The Boyles saw an opportunity for a new business in the market of OO Model Railways. Not only did they manufacture their products in Winsford, but they also outsourced to Hong Kong and other parts of the Far East.
In 1985, Dapol acquired a large number of tools and moulds from Pallitoy. The agreement included a wide range of Airfix and Kitmaster-originated OO railway kits, as well as the rights to use the Kitmaster brand. This equipment, now over 50 years old, is still in use by Dapol forming the basis for its Kitmaster/Dapol line of OO kits and railway accessories.
Since relocating in 1994, the company had been focused on N gauge models until 2011 and has grown and expanded operations at its current purpose-built manufacturing facility in Chirk during the last 12 years.
In 2011, Dapol hadn't launched an OO locomotive in 12 years, until the Class 22. The much-praised Class 52 Western followed in 2013.
In 2013, a new development team was formed, and Dapol now has experience in all elements of model production, from toolmaking to decoration to electronics and engineering. Dapol is now starting to see significant new developments emerge as a result of the assistance of this new team.
Dapol's first-ever O gauge train, the Terrier, which was designed to revolutionize the RTR O gauge sector in 2015, has already achieved considerable success.
Dapol now produces Locomotives, Rolling Stock, Signals and accessories in N, OO, and O gauges.
In 2022 Dapol has a long-established precedent for producing collectors models only available direct from Dapol themselves.
They have appointed DCC Supplies in Holt Heath as their sole repair agent.
On this page, you will find all the products we have in stock by Dapol in all 3 gauges, N, OO, and O gauges.
